How to download private facebook videos

4th September 2014 Paul Chris Jones

Downloading private facebook videos is difficult. There's no download button for one thing, and simply right clicking on the video just brings up options for Adobe Flash Player. It's like the developers of facebook don't want copies of videos flying around that were only intended for friends.

Well fuck you, facebook. Here's a 10-step method that uses Google Chrome to find the video's URL so you can download your friends' videos to your heart's content.

1) Go to your friend's page.

1

2) Select "Photos".

2

3) Select "Albums".

3

4) Select "Videos".

4

5) Right click anywhere on the page and select "Inspect element" from the menu.

5

6) This brings up the Developer tools. Select "Network".

6

7) On the facebook page, click on the video you want to download.

7

8) This will open the video in "Theatre mode", which displays a black box around the video. Scroll through the files in the list, paying attention to the "Type" column. Stop when you find one that's a "video" type.

8

9) Right click on its name and select "Open link in new tab" from the menu.

9

10) A new tab should open with the video by itself. Right click on it and select "Save video as..."

10

And that's it. Save it to your computer and watch it again and again and again.
